Understanding Georgia's Childcare Staff Ratios: Requirements for Daycare Centers

Ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for young children is a top priority for parents and childcare providers alike. One of the key factors in achieving this is maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios in childcare centers. In Georgia, specific regulations govern these ratios to ensure that children receive the attention and care they need. This article will explore the Georgia childcare ratios, commonly referred to as Georgia daycare ratios, and provide an overview of the requirements.

Staff-to-Child Ratios in Georgia Daycare Centers

Infants (Less than One Year Old)

Staff-to-Child Ratio: 1:6

Maximum Group Size: 12

Infants require significant individual attention and care. Georgia regulations stipulate a maximum group size of 12 infants with one staff member for every six infants. It's important to note that this ratio does not apply to the playground or special activities lasting more than two hours.

One-Year-Olds Who Are Walking

Staff-to-Child Ratio: 1:8

Maximum Group Size: 16

For children aged one year and who are walking, the ratio is one staff member for every eight children, with a maximum group size of 16.

Two-Year-Olds

Staff-to-Child Ratio: 1:10

Maximum Group Size: 20

Two-year-olds are more active and require constant supervision. The ratio for this age group is one staff member for every ten children, with a maximum group size of 20.

Three-Year-Olds

Staff-to-Child Ratio: 1:15

Maximum Group Size: 30

As children grow older and more independent, the ratio increases. For three-year-olds, the requirement is one staff member for every fifteen children, with a maximum group size of 30.
